Weddings are traditionally (but not exclusively) a religious ceremony between two people who are forming a union; reforms to the law and attitudes regarding marriage have seen a number of important changes in recent years. Despite the religious aspect to a marriage, it is still a legal matter; until the marriage certificate is signed by the bride, groom and witnesses, the ceremony is not finalized. Traditionally, the woman getting married is the bride and the man the bridegroom, usually abbreviated to groom; the terms husband and wife are then the traditional terms to use after the ceremony. Marriages in a Church Of course other wedding traditions can be much more complicated as soon as you look into different race, social classes and ethnic groups to name a few. Performed by a Christian priest or vicar, the Church ceremony continues to be top of the list as a venue. White weddings may be quite normal for those of us that live in the United States, UK, Ireland and the Commonwealth but they are not always accepted worldwide amongst Christian faiths. Double Weddings A different type occasion often difficult to arrange is where two couples are married simultaneously; this often happens where a person has a brother or sister that decides to tie the knot at the same time and it is not unheard of for two brothers to marry two sisters this way. Getting Married in a Foreign Country A destination wedding is where the engaged couple and often guests travel to attend the ceremony; although the idea of a isolated island beach may be your idea of a destination wedding, it doesn't actually mean you have to travel outside your own country. Activity Weddings Some couples decide to have their wedding over the course of a weekend and this can ensure the occasion is less stressful for all concerned. Those with a themed element can also be very successful and the activity can be either built into the day or over the course of a weekend. Lodging is usually at the same facility and couples often host a Sunday brunch for the weekend's finale. Online Ceremonies An online wedding is conducted on the internet which can resemble a normal ceremony; There are already a number of companies based online can help you find out more information about his unusual type of ceremony. This can prove a useful tool where relatives and friends from around the world can see an online wedding take place in real time without actually being there! City Hall Marriages Civil weddings have to be carried out by a local justice of the peace, judge, even a mayor can carry out the ceremony and most places out side of a church will use one of these people. For people that elect this type of ceremony it is not important to them if God or religion is referred to in such a brief service. Many civil ceremonies take place in local town or city halls or courthouses in judge's chambers. I hope this has helped with your understanding of what a wedding is even though the information has been mainly based around Christian beliefs.
