| Choosing An Emcee For Your Wedding |
|
It goes without saying that your wedding is a very special occasion, and while you want to make sure that every aspect of your wedding is perfect, one tricky detail to deal with is choosing the proper Master of Ceremonies, or emcee. The emcee plays a vital role in the proper execution of the evening's events, and while you want your emcee to be able to be organized and sharp, you also want this person to be well-spoken, charming, witty, like a stand-up comedian, event planner, orator, and traffic cop all rolled into one person. It can be a challenging decision choosing the right person for the position, as you want to include all of the important people in your family. And while you can't make everyone an usher, you hope to have a special friend or family member playing the part of emcee, someone you know and trust will say the right things at the right time, as well as be able to recognize all the guests, and pronounce all their names. Now while getting all of your wedding plans in order can be an enormous task, don't wait to the last moment to select an emcee, as you'll need to give the individual enough time to prepare--whether it's coming up with interesting stories to tell about the members of the wedding party, or finding a few appropriate quotes or toasts. Be sure to take careful consideration in your choice of a wedding emcee, because picking a good friend, but a poor speaker can put a damper on your wedding reception, and can be a source of embarrassment if they don't take the role seriously. It's easy to offend a guest or out-of-towner with the wrong pronunciation, and while you are amongst friends and family, an uneducated emcee can easily find himself losing the crowd with ill-timed humor or off-hand remarks. Try to avoid hiring someone to do the job, because although they might be well-voiced, they don't really know the people at the wedding, and they are more likely to come off sounding to formal and polished. So, choose carefully, and not only out of respect and friendship. Find the right person who can speak, be cheerful, and knows how to handle a crowd, and a microphone, because when you have the right person doing the talking, it's one less detail of your wedding that you have to worry about. |
